How do you write scenery when you've never been in a similar place before?

Perhaps imagine yourself in miniature in some everyday surroundings. Ponder a puddle as though it were an ocean to a microscopic you, standing by its edge. Gaze over the edge of the bathtub, imagining it to be a vast canyon. Lay on the rug, stare at the individual strands and imagine them to be individual tree trunks in a great forest. Take the old bug's-eye view and see familiar things in a new way.
