Confirmation Party in comparison to Bar Mitzvah?

how is a confirmation in comparison to a bar mitzvah party? The Jews have a ton of stuff and make it a great deal. Do Catholics usually take it as a very big thing as the Jews? I've only been to one confirmation party and like 25 Bar Mitzvahs. So I want to know if I should have one. Plus, I am 14 and in 8th grade. And I am not getting confirmed till next year. I am in 7th grade CCD. How does this affect my life as a Catholic?
